This chapter is called Targeting Understanding: Assessment and the Curriculum. once we identify the understanding, knowledge and learning skills that we believe important for students to learn. We also need to consider the ways in which they will demonstrate their learning. We must always keep in mind that assement is natural to teaching. A unit can be planned around an enduring idea that is important for students to understand and should be. That specific knowledge and skills can also be addressed within such a unit. In this unit I think it's important to know that many strategies used in the instruction of concepts and skills can also be used to assess the extent to which students have learned them. Like, a students could have a discussion about a certain price of artwork and it deepens everyone's understating and knowledge of that peice. The students will be able to engage in different concepts of creative learning. This was a good chapter to learn from in many different ways.
I pick this this picture because it stood out to me. The color and pattern of this picture was good and loud. The main focal point to me was the signs with ice cream and soda on them. I also picked this picture because it was a old school diner. I love ice cream and breakfast so it fit me very well. I do not think it was a narrative behind this picture. The artist did an awesome work on the detail with the signs inside and outside the diner. I got a very intriguing feel from this picture. The background of the picture with the street, house, pay phones, and the diner on the corner made me feel like I was at home by looking at this picture. I made a connection with this picture and I think it was very good.
This chapter is titled helping students learn. It begins with the students doing a unit over the Great Wave. With this, the teacher has them learn by reading in groups and finding main points and plotting then on a chart. There needs to be varies of experience supporting unit foundations. We have to teach for deep understanding. This chapter is really all about learning. The students are a framework for art knowledge that will ground the curriculum. We actually construct knowledge in a dynamic process which we build upon prior information and knowledge as we experience the world. We also must teach for student relevance. This chapter is very helpful for future art educators.
In this chapter, they talk about the best way to develope students understanding of art. They will go over questions about selecting artist, artwork artifacts and culture for study. But only after pursuing a careful examination of specific inquiry process related to responding to, making and theorizing about art. Direct and indirect evidence can be used in identifying artwork. Formal analysis is about style, materials, and techniques. Artworks are shaped by location, time period and cultural context which is great for interpretation of art. Also, artwork can be explained in terms of the artists biography. It is also explained in terms of standard conventions and symbol. In art you have to build your knowledge base and knowledge of other artists artwork is essential for art making. I like the practicing art history section of this chapter because it is very important to learn the history of where it came from before you become an artist and educator of art. Good chapter and very informative. In this chapter they focus on what it means to construct art curriculum with enduring ideas as a foundation. They will talk about philosophical and educational implications of framing curriculum with enduring ideas . Curriculum design is highly involved with decision making about inclusions and exclusion . Their approach to curriculum shows contextual approaches and discing knowledge. We learn why it is important to frame visual arts learning with enduring ideas in creating self portraits. the fourth graders learned that art making is purposeful and can be an occasion to explore ideas for further meanings. They also learned how to express themselves through visual art. It also benefits from knowing their students experience outside of school by their art. This chapter also just make you focus on certain things about everyday life. this is a good chapter to read and learn a lot from.
Chapter one is mostly talking about the curricula of art teachers and teachers period. It say that curriculum is necessarily dynamic. I find that to be true also. it is always changing in and out the years and is a good thing too. we need to be updated with the technology these days. I was interested with the art as a discipline movement between the teachers and students. How the teachers let the students give them feedback on any art in society and do it every day. TETAC teachers were encouraged to design integrated units of study which helped students make connections with their skills and be better in just more than one field. The teachers also included self reflections upon their work unpacking is a crucial step in the curriculum design process.to start this book with these two chapters was a great idea.
